Which companies are hiring freshers off campus in 2026, and how do you apply?
Last updated · 5 min read· By NextKnock Team· live data as of 20 Oct 2026
Short answer
Off-campus hiring means applying to companies directly instead of through your college's placement cell. In 2026 the fastest route is to watch company careers pages for fresher and intern roles, apply within the first few days, and email HR with a short note. NextKnock currently lists 1,393 fresher-friendly openings; the live list below updates every few hours.
Not everyone gets placed on campus, and many good companies never visit most colleges. Off-campus hiring is how most freshers in India actually find their first job: applying directly on company websites, in national-level hiring tests, through hackathons and challenges, by referral, and by writing to HR.

This list is built from live listings on company careers pages that NextKnock tracks. A job counts as fresher-friendly when it asks for about a year of experience or less, or its title says intern, trainee or entry level. Updated 20 Oct 2026.

What off-campus hiring means
On-campus hiring is organised by your college: companies visit (or run online drives) only for that college's students. Off-campus hiring is open to graduates from any college who meet the criteria. It comes in a few forms:
- Openings on company careers pages marked fresher, graduate, trainee or entry level, open all year.
- National-level hiring tests and drives, run by many large IT services and consulting companies on their official sites, usually with a registration window and an online test.
- Coding challenges and hackathons that companies use to find people. See hackathons for students.
- Startup hiring, which is usually informal: a careers page, a founder's post, or an email to the team.
- Internships that convert into full-time offers.
How to apply off campus, step by step
Get your basics ready once
A one-page PDF resume, a GitHub or portfolio link with two finished projects, and your marks and graduation year handy, because many fresher forms ask for them.
Make a short list of companies
Pick 30–50 companies that hire freshers in your field and city. Start with the live list on this page and the company pages it links to.
Check careers pages every few days
Fresher roles fill fast. Applying within the first few days of a listing going up gives you a real edge over applying in week three.
Apply on the official site
Use the company's own careers page or its official hiring test registration. Avoid third-party 'registration' links that ask for money.
Send a short email to HR
After applying, send a 100-word email to the hiring team naming the role and your best proof. It turns an anonymous form into a person.
Prepare for the test while you wait
Most fresher hiring has an online test: aptitude, basic coding or role-specific questions. Practise a little every day rather than cramming.
Track everything and follow up once
Keep a sheet of where you applied, when, and to whom you wrote. Follow up once after 4–5 working days.
Eligibility: what companies usually check
Criteria vary by company and change every year, so always read the official listing. Common checks for fresher roles in India include:
- Your graduation year (many drives are for one or two specific batches).
- Degree and branch (for example B.E./B.Tech, MCA, B.Sc, BCA).
- A minimum percentage or CGPA in 10th, 12th and graduation.
- No active backlogs at the time of joining.
- A gap in education, which some companies limit and others don't mind.
Never pay to apply for a job, to 'confirm' an offer, or for training that's promised to end in placement. Genuine companies don't charge candidates. If a message asks for money, it's a scam.
Where the fresher jobs are
Fresher openings cluster in the big tech cities, but remote roles open to candidates in India are growing too. Browse fresher jobs in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi NCR and Chennai, or remote jobs open to India. By role: software engineer, data analyst, QA and internships.
How to stand out without a campus brand
- Projects with links. Two finished, deployed projects beat ten tutorials. Put the live link and the code link on your resume.
- Speed. Apply in the first few days a listing is up. NextKnock adds 9,407 new jobs in a typical week, so check often.
- A direct email. A short note to HR or the hiring manager gets read; see how to cold email HR.
- Proof from competitions. A hackathon finish or a strong contest rating is evidence anyone can check.
- A clean, one-page resume. Our resume tips for freshers cover ATS-friendly formatting.

What is off-campus hiring for freshers?
It is when a company hires graduates directly, through its careers page, a national-level hiring test, a challenge or a referral, instead of through a college's placement cell. Anyone who meets the criteria can apply.
Which companies are hiring freshers right now?
The live list on this page shows companies with the most fresher-friendly openings on their own careers pages, updated every few hours. It currently covers 1,393 fresher-friendly openings.
Can I get an off-campus job with a gap year or a backlog?
Often yes, but it depends on the company. Some drives limit gaps or require no active backlogs at joining; many startups and product companies don't check these at all. Read each listing's eligibility.
Do I need to pay to register for off-campus drives?
No. Genuine company hiring is free for candidates. Any request for a registration fee, a security deposit or paid training to 'confirm' a job is a scam.
How do I know a fresher job is real?
Apply on the company's own website or its official hiring portal, check that the email comes from the company's domain, and be wary of offers without an interview or with a request for money.
