How NextKnock finds and checks jobs (methodology)
Short answer
NextKnock reads open jobs from public company careers pages and company-hosted job boards, keeps only roles that someone in India can take, re-reads each source about hourly (job-board feeds) or daily (other careers pages), removes duplicates by each job's own id, and takes jobs down when they close or their link dies. Hackathons are listed only after a check finds them open.
How jobs are found
- NextKnock keeps a list of companies hiring in India and finds each one's careers page.
- Where a company uses an applicant tracking system with a public feed (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, Workable, Recruitee, Workday), the whole board is read from that feed. That is complete and exact, and usually includes the employer's posted date.
- Other careers pages are read as web pages, using the structured job data many sites publish, with a careful text reader as a fallback.
- Private company lists that individual users add are never shown on public pages.
How jobs are refreshed and de-duplicated
- Job-board feeds are re-read about every hour; other careers pages about once a day.
- Each job is stored under a stable key from its source (the board and the job's own id), so a job seen again is updated, not added twice.
- When a fully read board no longer has a job, the job is marked closed. Its public page stays briefly with a note and then is removed.
- "Posted" dates come from the employer when the source gives one; otherwise NextKnock shows when it first found the job, and says so.
How links are verified
Apply links are re-checked with plain web requests. A job is treated as closed only on clear evidence: the page is gone (404 or 410), the site no longer exists, the link now lands on a generic careers or home page, the page says the job is closed, or the job board no longer lists the job. A site that blocks automated checks is not taken as proof that a job closed.
Fresher tagging and remote eligibility
- Fresher-friendly means the listing asks for about a year of experience or less, or the title says intern, trainee or entry level. It is read from the title and the experience lines of the description, so it is a strong hint, not a guarantee.
- Remote, open to India means the listing is remote and either names India (or a region that includes it) or is open worldwide. Remote roles limited to other countries, and on-site roles outside India, are left out.
- Roles (for example data analyst or Java developer) and cities are matched from the job title and location; a job can belong to several lists.
How hackathons are verified
Hackathons are collected from public listings and organisers' pages. One is listed only when its own page was checked and found open, it has a registration deadline that has not passed, and the event has not ended. The same event found on several platforms is shown once.
Hiring pulse and company pages
The India hiring pulse and the "at a glance" facts on company pages are counted from the same open-job index, with the date they were computed. Weekly snapshots are frozen in the archive. No salaries are estimated and no personal data is used.
Limitations
- Coverage is the companies NextKnock tracks, not the whole Indian job market. Counts are a directional signal.
- A few large employers post many roles at once, which can dominate weekly totals.
- Experience, role and city tags are inferred from text and can be wrong for unusual titles or locations.
- A job may close on the company's site a few hours before NextKnock notices.
